Students are using video technology to write, produce, edit, and film a variety of news stories at Salisbury Middle School. Reporter Madison L. interviewed Mr. Beyer, our 6th grade reading and English teacher, for a special segment called “Getting to Know Your Teacher.” Madison and 4 other students are working in the Falcon Film club this year and have so far produced 8 film stories for the students and staff at the middle school. All film segments are played on our TV show SMS Live. Students are getting first hand experience as writers, reporters, and film editors.
Mrs. Prokesch’s seventh grade students completed a unit on poetry during their English class this quarter. They wrote 11 different poems using their computers to construct the images and words for their poems. Students then printed their work and created a poetry booklet that was shared with their classmates. Students shown below were recognized by Mrs. Prokesch for producing some of the best poetry booklets in grade 7. Samples of poems include Melissa D’s concrete poem about Frank Sinatra and 7th grade student Gigi B who created a textured poetry book.
Apple, Inc. in cooperation with Salisbury Township School District sponsored a site visit on March 10 at Salisbury High School, focusing on our TL2020 goals and our 1:1 technology and learning initiative. Over 30 participants from other school districts visited the high school and were given information about the planning and implementation of our one-on-one technology initiative. Participants observed groups of students from the elementary, middle and high school buildings who showcased their work using technology within the classroom. Participants also toured the high school to see first hand students using technology in the classroom. Participants were given information about the infrastructure needed to implement such a program and the professional development that is required to ensure success with a one-on-one initiative.
It was a very informative and valuable day for all who were involved!
